How it works
Your carers rotate each other periodically. They are there through the day for personal care, meals, medication and mobility, and on hand overnight whenever you need help. Days follow your routine, not a rota and you decide when to get up, what to eat, and what the (excellent) day looks like. Your carers keep the house running and log each day so family can follow along. Carers work in agreed patterns which will match your routine to keep disruption of handovers to minimum.
Who it suits
This suits someone who is no longer safe alone for long stretches, at night or between visits. It suits people living with dementia, who do better in familiar rooms than in a new building. It suits anyone coming home from hospital who needs help around the clock for a while. And it suits families who have been told a care home is the only option, and want to look at the alternative first.
Questions about 24/7 care
What happens when my carer needs a day off?
Carers work in agreed patterns with planned breaks. When your carer takes theirs, a second carer from your own small team steps in — someone you have already met, briefed on your routine. Cover is arranged in advance, not on the morning it is needed.
Can my care start quickly after a hospital discharge?
Usually yes, often within 48-hours. Tell us as early as you can, ideally while discharge is still being planned, and we will work around the hospital timetable rather than after it. If we cannot cover it safely at that notice, we will say so straight away.
Does my carer need their own room?
It depends on the type of overnight cover you need. If it is sleeping night cover, your carer will need their own room. If carers are expected to stay awake, the closer they can be to you for communication and visibility, the better. Either way, carers work in shifts, so you will always know exactly who is coming and at what time, day or night.
