How it works
Your carer arrives in the evening and stays awake all night. They check on you or your relative as agreed, help with the bathroom, turning or continence care, give any night-time medication, and are there immediately if there is a fall or a difficult moment. Everything is logged as it happens. In the morning, they hand over to family or to the daytime carer, so nothing is lost between the two.
Who it suits
This suits someone at risk of falling on the way to the bathroom, or who wakes disoriented and needs a calm voice. It suits people who need turning, continence care or medication during the night. And it suits a husband, wife or daughter who has been sleeping with one ear open for months and needs a full night’s sleep to keep going. Questions about waking night support
What does “waking night” mean?
Your carer stays awake and alert for the whole shift, rather than sleeping and being woken if needed. That is the difference between a waking night and a sleep-in. It is the right choice when someone needs help several times a night, or when waiting to be called would not be safe.
Will family be updated in the morning?
Yes. Everything that happens overnight is logged as it happens, and there is a handover in the morning to family or to the daytime carer. You should not have to piece the night together from questions over breakfast.
Can night care be added to existing daytime visits?
Yes, and it is one of the most common arrangements we set up. Daytime visits carry on as they are, and night cover is added on top, usually with carers from the same team. It is often what keeps someone at home when the nights, not the days, have become the problem.
